What do the rating icons mean?

Last Updated: Feb 13, 2014 01:14PM PST
Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes combine critical reviews and audience ratings to provide an overview of a movie's quality.  We use a variety of icons to represent the status of a movie.

Rotten Tomatoes gathers reviews from critics to compile the Tomatometer for each film.  For more information on how they do this, click here.

The red tomato icon indicates the movie has scored a Fresh rating on the Tomatometer.

The splat icon indicates the movie has scored a Rotten rating on the Tomatometer.

The Certified Fresh icon is displayed for movies that meet the criteria found here.

Both Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes encourage users to rate movies and write their own reviews.  The Popcorn logo represents the average user rating.

The full popcorn bucket means the movie received 3.5 stars or higher by Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes users.

The tipped over popcorn bucket means the movie received less than 3.5 stars by Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes users.

The plus sign will appear for movies that do not have audience ratings or reviews.  The percentage you see associated with this icon is the percentage of users who added the movie to their Want-to-See list.
